Once again, George, thanks for another excellent reply.

I've had some dramatic experiences with sealing current. I once piloted its use in lower Manhattan, setting up controlled and experimental groups of circuits to the NYSE and SIAC. Stark differences in performance over time. On the group of lines (which, at the time, were all analog 3002-type unconditioned channels), the date of implementation marked the virtual elimination of all "cleared away while testing" close-outs. Prior to that date, there were regular, and somewhat predictable occurrences of "noise" and "excessive errors" reports. When these reports were troubleshot, testers would get up on the line and effectively "zap" it, resulting in an unintentional form of "breakdown" of the egregious section or splice point. One could take a look at the trouble history of the line, and with a fair degree of accuracy predict within a week or so when the next report would come in.

Glad that the voice component on ADSL will "inadvertently" eliminate many of those plaguing troubles from ever being reported.

Frank
