Reza - SDMT

>>>In Amati's annual report they mention SDMT(enhanced low power version of DMT). I wonder if you have more details on what "S" stands for and how it is enhancing DMT(besides lower power).<<<<<<

If what I've read in the past is correct, the "S" = Synchronized.

From what I've seen so far SDMT is being aimed at two directions:

1. Synchronized DMT a variation of DMT for multipoint to point transmission will be proposed to the ATIS committee T1E1.4 for VDSL (upto 51.8 Mbit/s on hybrid fiber).

2. SDMT is also being proposed to the IEEE committee 802.14 for the upstream channel of an HFC system. (Cable Modem)

SDMT from what little I know, is a method of synchronization, which allows the efficient combination of signals from multiple transmitters without the use of guard bands in either the frequency- or time-domain. Included is a protocol for controlling access to the shared channel by these transmitters, which may have widely varying needs for data rates and formats.

BTW : For those who are not familiar with Amati's deals with Ericsson
Amati supplies the main chipsets for Ericsson's Cobra cable modems.

I hope this helps answer your question Reza.
Thanks for speaking up.

I loved the characterization of DMT on pg 7.
