Thomas, Bravely, because I have no choice, I strive to build my dreams into reality. With my parent's love in my heart, driven by my desires I build castles in the sky. With rainbows of hope and passion. I apply all my intellect and being to create my world. A real world, a reflection of my life's hopes.

When I succeed, my ecstacy and joy are enormous. When I fail, sadness fills my heart.

This reality is a mere framework for my feelings. I want the companies I invest in to do well, because they are building a real world, a powerful base on which we can all live, prosper and revel in our feelings of joy. When these companies fail they send those who have been clambering around on the structure harshly back to earth. To start again, like the poor guy whose eternity was to push a rock up a hill only to see it roll down again.

The structure of the material world we build is nothing by itself. A cold pyramid of mechanical parts. On this structure we build our loving relationships, which warm our hearts. This framework of love is as difficult and real as the pyramid of mechanical parts. Each depends on the other.

It is so hurtful for Chiu to lose both his mechanical parts and his love at the same time. Sometimes we lose one, sometimes the other. But to lose both!! Sometimes our failiures are small, sometimes big. Sometimes our whole world. In the end, all our worlds come to an end. We can only hope to fill the interlude with joy. Not a casual ride on a pony, but a lifelong attempt to build a better world and fill it with happiness.

We can only hope we can face these broken dreams with some equanimity. Like Paul Weiss's friend who died on Mt Everest not long after talking to his pregnant wife. Pass the Prozac jfred.
