Whats your latest thoughts on system with multi-monitor support update to surf internet, trade stocks, etc. without spending to much?

Given Moore's law and the fact AT&T / TCI don't provide high bandwidth multimedia to my neighborhood yet, probably better off just getting less than top of the line. Sure I'd like a Dell Workstation and a NW Falcon game machine and several 21" flat screen monitors, but I don't want to spend more than $2000. I might add to the system later, a video card here and another monitor there. But right now my limit is around $2000, especially since I already have 2 monitors, a modem. I recently bought a new 21" Sony 500 PS monitor.

Anyway with Windows 98 and NT 5.0 is coming out soon was thinking of buying another computer. The best value I have found so far is at the www.Sagelec.com website.

Looked at Dell's, IBM, Gateway, Polywell, etc. So what's the latest best value available?

My current system is so unstable with Registery errors, corrupt files etc. I'm tempted to not to try and get to fancy. With my luck I'd load a game or shareware program and it wouldn't work for several days until I reloaded everything.

Maybe I should just by one cheap system now with a lot of open slots, and another in another year or two rather than spend twice as much on a system now that will be half price once the new bx motherboards and SCSI hard drives drop in price.

Guess I could use my current 486 66 Mhz system for my wife to play cards on, for backups and trying out new programs.

Tke new system would be for surfing the net, downloading historical data and number crunching, and using 2-3 monitors. Want to be able to use a Charting application, and monitor 1-2 websites at once, and free interday minute charts, and maybe a real time charting or day trading software package later on. Would also like to be able to use a cable modem when available. I'd also like to be able to backup of historical chart data to either another PC or CD or hard drive.

Thinking I would like the Tyan Thunder dual PII BX motherboard with SCSI and sound onboard (reviewed on Tom's Hardware site) with lots of empty slots, one or two IBM or Seagate Cheetah hard drives 4-9 Gig, and a one PII 266-333 Mhz (will upgrade later), 64 Meg 1 SIMM PC100 cert. memory chip.

Any suggestions appreciated.
