I would have to list WTS pricing as being another significant factor in the recent price decline. The lack of a concurrent user pricing model really stinks especially for occasional-use Unix users and remote access users who access from multiple clients. The MSFT pricing model is really absurd. As I understand it, if for example you publish an app on the Web with WTS, then each and every client accessing that app would have to have an NT Workstation license. Ahh, the joys of being without competition.

I find it ironic that even though MSFT says that WTS/WindowsTerminals are suitable for "fixed function" tasks implying that it offers less functionality/performance than a desktop PC/NTWorkstation, they still charge the user the same amount for the license. Go figure.

I think MSFT is shooting itself in the foot with this pricing model. Judging by the reaction in the discussion forums, they have just pissed off many an IS worker and have perhaps motivated them to seek out alternatives to Windows.

Regardless, I believe that WTS/WindowsTerminals will sell very well especially to larger businesses who were going to deploy NT on desktops in the first place.
