Dale,

Do you think we are headed the way of DRAM and the D Drives?

Yes.. (I don't really need to elaborate on that do I ;-) )

I myself don't believe we are, because unlike the DRAM and D Drives, Intel is significantly ahead of the competition (capacity, speed etc).

Intel has an advantage in capacity and to some extent speed. However speed is becoming a moote issue. Does the average Internet surfer or secretary need a PII-400.. NO.. Do I for simulation YES. But I make up at most 15% of the market (very generous % there).

I think Intel has also taken steps to move to a proprietary architecture (careful you know I aint technical). I think privately AMD and Cyrix have to be considering the futility of competing with Intel.

Well NSM is taking a different track, aiming for the information appliance market with parts that cost <$80 and have modems, videos, ethernet, and sound built in. Intel doesn't have a solution in that price range yet or have plans for one.

AMD on the other hand is trying to go "high" on INtel and compete head to head speed/performance. I wouldn't count them out, although I skeptical.

Steve
