I agree.

One of the reasons I'm long CPQ (have been for a couple of years and consider CPQ to be a core holding) is a play on the consolidation of the PC industry.

We tend to believe computers to be hi-tech things but in fact they are still in a very primitive state. In terms of historical analogies, the PC today is where the automobile was in the early 1920s. We are just beginning to get to the point where you don't need to be your own mechanic to own one. Back then there were dozens of car makers, but as the technology matured and moved into the consumer and economic mainstream, the field narrowed considerably as the weak fell away and the strong grew and grew. That's what's starting to happen in PCs today. It won't happen overnight but the relentless cost pressure eventually rewards the most efficient producers. CPQ is setting itself up to be the GM of the PC industry. That's why anyone with a 5+ year horizon should be very comfortable holding CPQ.
