SafeScience Signs Agreement With Thermo Fibergen to Market and Distribute a New Consumer Product
SafeScience(TM) Brand Continues to Expand Beyond Agricultural Products and Human Therapeutics
BOSTON, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- SafeScience, Inc. (Nasdaq: SAFS - news) today announced it has signed an agreement with Thermo Fibergen Inc. (Amex: TFG - news), a public subsidiary of Thermo Fibertek Inc. (Amex: TFT - news), a Thermo Electron (NYSE: TMO - news) company, to market Thermo Fibergen's new environmentally friendly de-icer under the SafeScience(TM) world brand. Under the terms of the agreement, Thermo Fibergen will manufacture the organic de-icer and SafeScience will market and distribute the product using its rapidly expanding international network of distributors.

The product consists of a proprietary recycled cellulose-based granule and a specially formulated biodegradable organic de-icer. It melts ice quickly and loosens the attachment of ice to the pavement, thus making the melting and removal of ice easy and safe. Moreover, the granules provide much-needed traction on ice. Other de-icers like rock salt, calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride are very corrosive and harmful to vegetation, lakes, and aquifers, whereas ethylene glycol and methanol are very toxic to humans and pets. Thermo Fibergen's de-icer is biodegradable, environmentally benign, nontoxic, and noncorrosive. It is a safe alternative that consumers can use around the house and car for de-icing driveways and walkways. The product will be available to consumers this fall.
Thermo Fibergen is developing and commercializing technologies to produce valuable products from recycled cellulose- and minerals-based materials generated as byproducts of the papermaking process.
