Interesting spin...

"Our new line of Digital Format Translators provides a range of modular
solutions for broadcasters, cable and satellite services seeking to deliver a
variety of Digital Television (DTV) and High-Definition (HDTV) video formats
to meet the new HDTV/DTV standards."
* Faroudja further noted: "There has been a tremendous response to the DFT
line from broadcast engineers at networks, at station groups and at
post-production houses. These are the people who must solve the dilemma of
multiple-format sources and the delivery of FCC-compliant digital signals. It
is imperative that stations have a top-quality and flexible solution, which we
believe the DFT alone delivers.

looks like format translator can be used by cable companies to
be used in their headend facilities to send out the different combinations of signals/channels and then change these as need be...
new application had I had not considered...
with band width concerns regarding HDTV/DTV they can custom mix and match quality/quantity...
