... thinking to herself was always such a challenge for Muffy. She had found out years ago that the questions she asked herself during her deep-thought sessions always got answered by a strange passerby, or a devious co-conspirator in the annals of her life.
The mere fact that she survived her first book after that Sedona explosion and fire indicates that Muffy is no mere mortal. Something fantastic is in store for her. She is sure of it.
Thoughts of random acts of kindness passed through her mind. "Pulling wings off flies, keying paint jobs on cars, writing graffitti with spray paint", thought Muffy. These were acts of kindness from Muffy's perspective.

Muffy dozed off, which usually happens during her attempts to concentrate on any one given subject for more than 19 seconds at a time.
Up in the pilot's cabin, Nurse Norma ... er, uh ... Ms. Norma, Transportation Titan! ... was busily flying the plane and charting a course around the tropical storm which had appeared out of nowhere.
[Editor's note: I wonder where the storms appear from when they don't appear out of nowhere? But, that's not important right now.]
She glanced up into the rear view mirror to see if anybody was following her, and was surprised to see the white box leaning against the cabin door.
[Editor1: Aw, c'mon. There aren't any rear view mirrors in airplanes!]
[Editor2: Yeah, but we had to get her to look back there somehow! Shhhh ... if we keep it quiet, maybe nobody will notice the discrepancy.]
Nurse/Ms Norma put the plane on AutoPilot and retrieved the long, rectangular white box from its position near the cabin door.
[Editor1: Hey. Doesn't this plane have FBN-AutoPilot? Why do we need Ms Norma anyway? The plane should be able to fly itself.]
[Editor2: This chapter was written before FBN-AutoPilot was invented, you fool! In fact, it was Ms Norma's suggestion to develop it that caused the electromechanical marvel to be invented.]
Ms. Norma noticed a small envelope on the white box. It was about the size of those thank you notes that come from florists. She opened it, pulled out the little note, and read "Dearest Norma: Thank you for your loyalty and faithfulness to our company. Without you, FBN Associates wouldn't get around as much. Love ya'! TED"
A tear in her eye (only the left one), Ms. Norma opened the box to find a dozen long stemmed yellow roses. She pulled one of them out to examine it up close. She smelled the fragrance. It was heavenly.
"Ouch!", she said, as she pricked her finger on one of the thorns. Her finger started bleeding profusely (that's a lot, you know). Norma became faint, fell forward into the pilot's seat, accidentally disengaged the AutoPilot, and the plane went out of control. Norma lost consciousness. An emergency alarm started sounding, but nobody was awake to hear it .... |
