''Is the business cycle dead?'' Minehan asked Samuelson who delivered the opening remarks to the Boston Fed's conference on what causes business cycles late on Wednesday.

"No," answered Samuelson.

''I did not think so,'' added Minehan, who outlined the topics discussed at the Boston Fed's conference -- what causes recessions and whether they are inevitable -- as ''some of the most critical issues'' in monetary policy.>>
