I disagree. ATT is not the only player in the country that want's to offer a full range of services to the consumer. Ever hear of Sprint, or MCI? We already know both have now, or have had in the past, plans for offering video service. Remember Sprint PCS is the brainchild of Sprint but also has 3 cable TV companies as partners. Sprint was at one time going to use the CATV plant of it's partners to offer bundled telephone, CATV and long distance. This was before cable modems were around, but that would be part of the offering too.

The moral of the story is this, DISH has a way to get broadband media into the home. Lot's of companies will be looking at Dish and DirectTV as potential partners in the full service game. Since DirectTV already has links to an RBOC (Bell Atlantic, I think) I think DISH is going to be courted by Sprint for either an outright purchase or else a marketing arrangement.

Sprint will obviously want nothing to do with TCI now. The RBOC's will be interested in using DISH for downstream broadcast of video to the home, since their XDSL pipes are only good for some data and voice traffic. DISH's great capacity is their leverage to get a nice buyout price for us, in the event that Charlie decides to go that way.

I'm buying more. I invite comments that blow holes in my theory, but I really do think we're sitting on a gold mine here.
