You can't compare someone who writes code in Cobol, PL1, or some other high level language to one who writes in assembly language - a low level language. The toolsets that many of these companies are selling or using have nothing to do with Embedded Controlled (Micro-Code) instruments. Besides, the instruments, computer controlled machinery, process control systems require many people with diverse skills from different areas: Company Engineers (Mfg. & Test Engineers) Plant personnel with specialized skills (Operators/technicians) Manufacturers & OEM's System Integrators Hardware & Software personnel Its doubtful that IT companies would venture into Factory Automation unless it was remediation of the PC based (Host) Controller software. As I said, go to the TAVA research site and start the DD process.
