I agree with Joe, even though the show was kind of tacky and amateurish, there is a ton of good information.
The interviewer was definitely VERY knowledgeable and knew which questions to ask.
Seeing Banshee perform with no/little slowdown, 4 3d screens and dozens of 2D windows, run Forsaken at crazy speeds..
The interviewer made a lot of good points:
1. If Riva TNT is supposed to be release soon, wouldn't they be bragging about benchmarks? The recent ones show that it barely beats Voodoo2. Riva says they are running 40-50% of the full speed b/c of drivers, but doesn't that sound kind of a weak explanation?
Remember that when Riva128 first came out, it fell far short of their press release announcment performance numbers (40% short I read somewhere) and the visual quality is lacking. Besides, Riva 128 boards can't even play Final Fantasy VII. (quick jab - hehe, i know this will eventually be fixed)
2. Right now.. game developers aren't even close to full realizing the potential of Voodoo2 (especially since it's CPU limited), and by the next generation of games come that need more power, Voodoo3 will be out.
Quick question, anyone catch what the 3dfx people said in the background near the end of the interview. The interviewer was asking whether Banshee was the technology that was to be used for Sega's console before it got canned. I couldn't hear the response over the host.
After hearing 3dfx, seeing the office, and the technology.. I am FULLY confident 3dfx's ability to perform and stay the dominant market leader.
Banshee is the best 2D/3d solution on the market, and the irony is they will probably be the first to market before G200 and Savage3d. And if you compare the features/performance, glide capability - it's clear choice Banshee is going to win out.
July 15th earnings are going to ROCK!
