true, and good example... but then if someone waited that long before covering their short and stopping their loss, then they deserve to lose all their money.

No matter how much pain a person is willing to endure, there comes a time when you have to say "stop"...otherwise like you say, you may simply be wiped out. Better to pull out of the market with still some money left to trade another day.

Personally, I just buy puts. That way, I can only lose 100% of the money, no more. It's my choice from the beginning how much I decide I can afford to lose, that decision is made right up front.
