36 Hour Ordeal (Viagra):

Not sure if someone has already posted this. This appeared in the Straits Times this morning (26 June 1998)

IMPOTENCY DRUG GIVES MAN 36-HOUR ORDEAL

MADRID- A Dutch tourist in the Spanish resort of Benidorm was admitted to hospital after the male impotency drug Viagra caused an erection lasting 36 hours, the Spanish press reported yesterday.

The 50-year old tourist, who said he had no history of impotency, told doctors at a clinic in Alicante that he had taken the drug 36 hours earlier and had, since then, been unable to lose the erection.

A urologist at the clinic, Mr. Bartolome Lloret, told the El Mundo daily that the patient had no medical need of the new drug, but wished merely to improve his sexual performance.

Mr. Lloret warned that the incident could possibly have serious after-effects for the patient.

He said it demonstrated the danger of taking the drug when there was no real need to do so.

After a night's stay in the clinic, the patient was able to return home.

The urologist said the case might be Spain's first recorded adverse experience with Viagra, which is not on sale in the country. - AFP
