Accelar Routing Switches Selected by PanAmSat for Upgraded LAN Services; Offers First 100Mbps Fast Ethernet to High-End CAD Users at Long Beach Site
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 1998--Bay Networks(R) Inc. (NYSE:BAY) today announced that PanAmSat Corp. has selected the Accelar 1200 routing switches to upgrade its Long Beach, Calif., communications center to 100Mpbs Fast Ethernet.

In January, the LAN group in Long Beach installed an Accelar 1200 routing switch to provide Fast Ethernet connectivity for selected internal users on one segment of the facility's two-segment LAN backbone infrastructure. The Accelar 1200 routing switch provides high-end design and manufacturing professionals the additional throughput needed to transmit and receive large, complex CAD/CAM files more efficiently.
The Long Beach location already uses a variety of Bay Networks' products, including ASN(TM) routers, BayStack(TM) 300 series 10/100 Ethernet switches, BayStack 350 10/100 autosensing Ethernet switches, and Optivity(TM) Network Management software.
The Long Beach facility installed the Accelar 1200 routing switch with an 8-port 100BASE-T module and a 16-port 10/100BASE-T Ethernet module. The Accelar 1200 routing switch is a modular, flexible, scalable device that can be configured with up to 96 10/100 ports or 12 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
