LF, PC shipments in Latin America rose 15.4% in 3rd Q .yet CPQ suffered the largest decline in market share of the big Amer Co. from 14.8% to 10.8% because of clone machines. The same thing is bound to happen in other places like Europe and is already happening here with the Japanese. They also lost market share in China to IBM and HWP. I think Dell is growing faster than CPQ in Eroupe. If Europe is anti far east what make you think they will buy CPQ( remember Pfeif got that far east award that Steve posted all over the place) and not IBM,Dell, Olivetti ,HWP,Seimans, or smaller companys clone PCs ? When you are dealing with comodity products and your products don't stand out from the crowd like NIKE you never know what will happen from Q to Q . All the PCs are the same, you and I could stick one togather in ten seconds and have it in CompUSA for sale tomorow . BTW most of the far east Co. make their own components so they can aford to lower prices to gain market share. Toshiba isn't the only company that is struggling in Europe,PC sales are sluggish in Europe overall ,they are just honest enough to admit it along with a couple of American companys.I don't have CPQ's 10q handy but I think thay said their sales were off in Europe. If you could buy a pc that is just as good as CPQ or better for less money would you buy it from the likes of SONY or Toshiba, two of the best electronics companys in the world ??? Sorry, but I don't buy that anti far east rhetoric . MP
