In fact I'm particularly interested in this right now because
I've been asked for advice by two relatives both of which want
new machines and neither of which would be in a position to
build them, or even to have me build it for them. I have
to admit I'm at a loss to recommend a major box maker.

These are not complete computer novices, but definitely not
techies either (one of them is changing from an old Mac to
Windows).

I agree this is somewhat off topic, but only somewhat.
It's always important to discuss alternatives. Besides,
I get this question a lot and I'd like to upgrade my
stock answer, which is duh. <G>

Any and all comments/discussion would be appreciated.

BTW, some time ago there was discussion of a web site
(or maybe only phone number?) of a company that would
build exactly to your spec, integrate, test, and
provide tech support? I looked back on the thread
but didn't find it, or maybe didn't recognize it.
Anybody recall the particulars?
