Daniel,

I'm a Rand fan myself. We however do not see eye to eye on what constitutes a monopoly.

I wonder what Ayn Rand would have thought about the spectacle of Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), conservative "defender of free enterprise", huffing and puffing about the evil Microsoft monopolists on the Senate floor this morning.

His true motives are so blatant, but he didn't have the guts to state them. Corel is shutting down its Orem, Utah, Word Perfect division:

Rather than chastising Corel for its incompetent business practices, he rails on about Microsoft. He is also desperately trying to protect former NOS monopoly, Novell, another Utah company, from competition from Microsoft.

Helping his home state constituents, however incompetent, is one thing, but he could at least be honest about it. Blathering on about protecting free markets and consumer interests is just a smoke screen. However, being disingenuous is an art form practised by most political animals.

Regards, JB
