I've had similar experiences with Radio Shack and Office Depot. Compaq exec have not only dropped the ball, but they are sitting on it and it's going flat.

This is not to say that things won't improve, but CPQ is looking more and more like a big mismanaged company that is so oversized that large sectors go out of control because no one is watching or cares.

Management might be focusing on the corporate side, but I can't see that. Judging from the retail trade (and the earnings) those running Compaq are out of touch.
