Back to my earlier posting on CompUSA, sales people stressed that I had to be careful when buying a Compaq laptop because Compaq did not always use Intel chips. Playing dumb customer, I asked what difference this made. I was told a big difference, that first-class PCs and notebooks used Intel chips whereas second-rate Pcs/notebooks used the cheaper, slightly inferior, "off-brand" chips.

Using shoes to explain the mid-set the sales person was trying to impress upon me:

computers with Intel chips = leather
non-Intel Compaqs = pleather
who-knows-what non-Intel off-brand PCs = plastic

What the sales guy was trying to get across to me is that if I'm willing to shell out a lot of money, I should not consider a notebook that uses anything but an Intel chip. Period.

Maybe one of these sales people got hold of your wife one day.
