Sorry Carter, you have a few things confused. CDMA competes against GSM. GSM is dominant in Europe and other parts of the world. Many people believe that CDMA is a better technology and both GSM (Omnipoint) and CDMA (Sprint and others) are competing for customers in the US. CDMA is also making many inroads in other parts of the world. TDMA is the digital part of the cellular spectrum that AT&T uses to provide their digital product here in the US. It is very limiting and can't handle data transfer like CDMA or GSM.

These technologies have no real place in delivering video to the home. Their real competition will be Iridium and others who are launching low orbit satellites to offer telephone and data services anywhere in the world. Still different than sending high power signal to DBS dish. Loral has teamed up with Echostar to do something like this via their Skyconnect sub (check out the press release).
