Periphonics Partners with T-NETIX to Enhance Automated Transaction Processing Services with Voice Verification Capabilities
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- T-NETIX, Inc. (Nasdaq: TNTX - news) a leading provider of fraud prevention and call processing technology, products and services today announced that it has joined forces with Periphonics Corporation (Nasdaq: PERI - news), a leading worldwide provider of products and services for call processing solutions used in Computer Telephony Integration and Telecom Enhanced Network Services, to offer voice verification for automated telephony applications. Periphonics will integrate T-NETIX's patented SpeakEZ Voice Print(SM) technology into its VPS family of Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems.

SpeakEZ Voice Print(SM) technology significantly reduces an institution's risk of fraud by requiring callers to pre-record a spoken password(s), and identify themselves by speaking that same password(s) each time they wish to access secure information and services. Additionally, enhancing IVR applications with SpeakEZ can lower an institution's operating costs by reducing the amount of customer service representative time required for verifying the customer's identity.

Periphonics will work with T-NETIX to port SpeakEZ Voice Print(SM) technology to OSCAR (Open Signal Computing and Analysis Resource), Periphonics' advanced platform designed specifically for leading-edge speech processing algorithms. The IVR applications will prompt the caller to ''voice verify'' their identity. The spoken reply is then packaged and sent to an OSCAR running SpeakEZ, where it is compared against the caller's previously enrolled voice print stored on the Periphonics Voice Template Database Server. The verification engine will send a message back to the IVR application, indicating whether access should be approved or denied.

''As the frequency and value of telephone-based commercial transactions increase, call center operators are more concerned than ever with fraud security,'' said Ron Beyner, vice president of commercial services at T-NETIX. ''Touch-tone-based passwords and PINs, can be copied or 'hacked.' With SpeakEZ Voice Print(SM) technology, an account will be protected from unauthorized access, even if the 'fraudster' knows the account holder's voice print password. And because voice print passwords can be selected and enrolled by the customer, they do not require as much support, which pays operational cost benefits to service providers.''

''By enhancing IVR applications with voice verification technology, our customers can reduce unauthorized access to secure applications,'' said Ken Holl, senior program manager, advanced recognition technology at Periphonics. ''SpeakEZ is designed to easily integrate with our platform, and can be retrofitted to our installed base of VPS systems.''

''We are very pleased to enter into this relationship with Periphonics,'' stated Tom Huzjak, T-NETIX CEO and chairman of the board. ''Many of the major banks, brokerage firms and telecommunications companies which have expressed interest in our SpeakEZ Voice Print(SM) technology use Periphonics IVR systems. Through this relationship, we anticipate shortening the time to market interval for new voice print technology trials and installations. We believe the language-independent nature of our technology makes it ready for the global market, and Periphonics' global presence will help us reach this market.''
