Hello, Steve -- Got two posts from you, one from Shalom, will try to answer them all in this one...
I do NOT intend to cast aspersions on ANYONE'S beliefs or faith. I DO deny that there is ANY SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE for anything remotely resembling the tenets of scientific creationism or its apologia, the "gap theory". Attempts to manufacture such evidence indicate a lack of faith. If one's faith is dependent on science comporting itself to a literal translation of the Bible, one will inevitably be disappointed.
These attempts - misguided in some cases, cynical money-making propositions in others - to make scientific observation subservient to the (narrowly interpreted) "word of God" are in large part responses to the confusion some kids have in school upon learning that their science text differs from their Bible. Does it make them question their faith? GOOD! Unquestioned faith is worthless! Does it unravel the "brainwashing" (your word, Steve) to which they've been subjected during their childhoods? If that's the only thing that tends to unravel it, be very, very grateful.
Again, I am not trying to undermine anyone's faith or belief (c'mon, could I even presume to do such a thing?), but I am saying that the scientific method won't get you there -- Jeff |
