[nat1000 vs sygate vs wingate]
recently i was forced to reinstall my os (after a failed sp3 upgrade for my nt4.0] and i used this 'opportunity' to check out alternatives to my 'old proved wingate' solution. so i downloaded 'sygate' and 'nat1000'.
To make it short: 'sygate' is quite perfect while 'nat1000' doesnt work at all for me, but finally, i'm back to wingate because its free.

The perfect thing about sygate is, its almost transparent. you dont have to care for ports or so and special proxy settings in your applications setup (which is necessary when you use a proxy based tool). The only draw back is, that when you have different ISP's, and you want to switch from one providet to another (you dial to a different provider) you must stop and restart sygate. this is because you have to tell sygate which DUN connection you are using. Exept for this, it is absolutely transparent and works absolutely perfect.
About Nat1000 you have to know that you cant use it if your dont have a fixed connection to the internet. Look at the support section at the nevod home page and you will see, that nat1000 requires a gateway(the computer where nat1000 is running) with 2(!) NIC's (see installation checklist @ nevod.com So no DUN connection. But, it may work for cable connections as well. But it doesnt work for me because i have only a dial-up networking connection to my provider with a dynamic assigned IP adress.
Finally, after the free evaluation period for sygate i switched back to wingate, primarily because its free. so far, i'm quite happy with wingate although its a bit tedious to set up all these mapped links.
