Dale, I wouldn't be too quick to buy that. Afterall the same engineers completely reverse engineered the MMX and x86 instruction sets not to mention devised their own 3d-extenstions (some of which were merged into 3d-now if I remember correctly). Cyrix has some of the smartest engineers in the indsutry...

Right. I am always cautious about listening to the analysts or even CEO's. When it comes to science, math and engineering nobody has a monopoly, or as Gates says nobody owns the factory of ideas.

And we agree NSM and AMD certainly do have smart engineers. But that is why i think Intel has to (and will) move to a more proprietary architecture. Not being an engineer myself, I really don't know precisely (in engineering terms) how they will do it.

I am counting on Intel to use its vast marketing, manufacturing and engineering expertise to control the P6 bus and surrounding chips, video cards, motherboards etc.

If Intel can't move to a proprietary system and enforce its intellectual property then Intel will suffer the same fate as the DRAM and DD makers.
