`Lightning Strike' Enhances Internet Performance Products with Image
Compression Technology
BELLINGHAM, Wash., Dec. 2 /CNW/ - Peak Technologies (Alberta: PKT.A), a
leading developer of Internet performance products, today announced an
exclusive agreement with Infinop, Inc. of Denton, TX, to license and market
the Java version of `Lightning Strike,' an image compression technology that
delivers twice the performance of the popular JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts
Groups) compression technology. As part of a continuing strategy to provide
solutions that improve Internet performance, Peak is offering `Lightning
Strike' free to individual users via download from the Peak Website
(http://www.peak-media.com) now through March 31, 1997. Non-commercial user
licenses are available at no charge during this time period to help develop a
widespread acceptance of this exciting, new technology.

full-screen images to be delivered over the Internet in a fraction of the time

`Lightning Strike's' Java applet technology allows images compressed with
the `Lightning Strike' CODEC to be displayed on the Web without plug-ins or
players. This wavelet-based technology produces up to 200:1 compression for
images. This ratio is significantly greater than that which is typically
available with JPEG at far better resolution. With `Lightning Strike,'
Webmasters can deliver greater imagery on their Web pages, and can avoid the
slow download times and setup hassles that cause users to ignore sites.
