<<'m not against the Libertarian party but I wish they would join and try to reform the GOP back into what it used to be. Seems like the only thing that separates the Gop from the dems is that the GOP can order dinner with out saying "it's for the children".>>

Bill, what do you mean here? I can remember that even back in the '50's and '60's, there were liberal Republicans, and conservative ones. Nelson Rockefeller and Hugh Scranton, for example, appealed to me in some of the same ways that Teddy Kennedy does, because they seemed compassionate.

Do you watch the ABC Sunday program with Sam Donaldson? There is a commentator on there, Bill Kristol, who remarked a couple of weeks ago that he had gone from covering that little meeting where the Christian right and the Republican presidential hopefuls met, to a gathering of wealthy Republican fat cats in California, who are fiscally conservative but pro-choice and liberal on social issues. He remarked that after listening to these two groups, he believed that America was splitting into two distinct cultures. Obviously, so is the Republican party!! Dr. James Dobson seems to be serious about leaving and taking the conservative Christians with him if the national platform does not respect their morality. And yet if it does, I think the party will not win very many races. So it self destructs either way! This is going to be a very interesting process to observe, and see what happens.
