Larry, I tried really hard not to sound like I was disagreeing with briefing.com's monday morning quarterbacking. What I was trying to say is I find very little use for reading monday morning quarterbacking.

Take a look at ALYD's newly designed web site and read the stuff about SmartAudit: alydaar.com. I think this is strategically important for two reasons: 1. It shows how SmartCode can be adapted for other uses that can be turned into profit centers, and 2. It targets upper management as opposed to IT personnel and thus taps into a different line item in the budget.

Yes, other Y2K companies are offering auditing. However, these firms are offering traditional "process" audit services. This means they concentrate on whether a company followed a carefully designed plan from start to finish. ALYD actually tells customers whether their code actually will work -- a true code audit.

Analysts know this and the institutions who talk at length with ALYD know this. That's why they've quietly bought up 28% of the shares recently.

I've had talks with Alydaar for quite a while about being more vocal about the myriad of uses for SmartCode. I mean, here they've got this great artificial intelligence based product that can be trained to remediate all sorts of languages quite easily, compared to most products that just do COBOL, and often by pattern matching-- yet people like briefing.com are still focusing on ALYD's acquisitions being the key to their survival. Again, had they just talked to ALYD in the last six months...

Anyway, the newly designed web site certainly does a good job of focusing on SmartCode. Also, as just about any press release that a Y2K company issued these past few months gave people an excuse to sell on news, I really can't blame ALYD for not being vocal in that way. However, as the sector heats up again, I suspect that strategy will change.

- Jeff
