Talking about Presarios, this will "help" to sell more Compaq computers. From MSN member discussions. Many messages were talking about some problem installing Windows 98 to their Presarios. Some flaming about the machines. Word of mouth. The sys op had to delete a couple of the messages of some unhappy customers.

This is one of the more helpful messages for their problems:

I just got off the phone with Compaq tech support about Windows 98.

This is free advice, so take it for what it's worth:

DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS 98 ON COMPAQ PRESARIO COMPUTERS(SEE EXCEPTIONS BELOW). IT WILL CAUSE YOU ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS(DRIVERS, ETC.) IT WILL ALSO VOID YOUR WARRANTY.

THE EXCEPTIONS ARE THOSE MODELS SOLD WITH DESIGNED FOR WINDOWS 98 UPDATE SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON THEM.
YOU SHOULD EITHER HAVE AN UPGRADE COUPON INCLUDED WITH YOUR COMPUTER OR INSTRUCTIONS TELLING YOU HOW TO OBTAIN THE WINDOWS 98 UPGRADE. THERE ARE ALSO COMPAQ DESKTOP SERIES AND SOME PORTABLES THAT DONOT HAVE HOMEBASE ON THEM WHICH WILL PROBABLY WILL BE OK(THERE WORDS NOT MINE)

COMPAQ AS YET(AT LEAST PUBLICALLY) HAS NO IDEA HOW THEY ARE GOING TO HANDLE THIS SOFTWARE CONFLICT.

Gerald
