Barron's interview with portfolio manager in support of sybase Have CA buy them. <g>

Marcin admits that Sybase has some obvious problems; the customer base has
to believe in the long-term viability of the company, for instance. That's less of
an issue for the current leaders in the database business, Oracle and Microsoft.
And certainly, Sybase is not currently profitable. Marcin, though, thinks Sybase
can eventually produce operating margins of 15%. And he sees another
possible outcome. "The other obvious solution is that Computer Associates or
IBM or Microsoft or some other software company buys them for the revenue
base, and terminates their salespeople," he says. "If management can't make it
a viable business, their customers would be happy if it were part of another
organization."
