Intel isn't completely proprietary by any stretch of your's or AMD's or Cyrix's imagination. Intel has developed new and unique electrical/mechanical interfaces to to connect their x86 INDUSTRY STANDARD COMPATIBLE processors to a motherboard. The Motherboard itself is COMPETELY COMPATIBLE - accepting ALL PCI cards, USB plug ins, ISA CARDS, serial/parallel I/O devices, and AGP cards...The fact that you can't plug a Clones-'R-Us CPU into the INTEL CPU socket is a don't care for everybody in the world - except the Clones'R-Whining crowd.

Paul,

Thanks for your comments. That is just what I meant when I said I would like to see Intel move to a more proprietary architecture and protect its intellectual property. Proprietary in the sense of keeping those pesky termites AMD/Cyrix from destroying profits.
