According to Briefing.com, the rise in MU and other semi's is due
to a Dataquest report that was positive on the sector due to the
growth in digital TV set top boxes. These boxes are expected
to contain memory and ASICs. However, IMHO, it won't be until
1998 until these boxes will be deployed in large numbers. Also,
if MU is losing money on every DRAM they sell ($12 ASP last quarter vs. $8 ASP this quarter), the greater the volume, the worse off
their financials will be. Because of excess capacity in the industry just waiting to be used, I don't expect the ASP of DRAM's to rise significantly any time soon. This frenzied buying should dry up by 1Q97. I expect MU to peak at $39, if that high.
