The GM strike has been very good for GM dealers. They are going to report record sales for the month of June as consumers are buying now to beat a potential shortage that may result from the strike.

What effect this has on APCO, if any, I don't know. I am not familiar with how many new GM vehicles APCO provides warranties for.

Overall car sales for June have been good through the first three weeks:

Auto sales in U.S. up 6.4 pct June 1-20 -- CNW

NEW YORK, June 23 (Reuters) - Automobile sales in the United States rose 6.4 percent in the first 20 days of June, compared with the same period a year ago, based on vehicle delivery data, CNW Marketing/Research reported Friday.

Total vehicle deliveries rose to 871,359 units during June 1-20, from 818,947 delivered during the same period last year, CNW said.

Deliveries of domestic cars fell by 1.2 percent, totaling 273,607 units during the survey period, versus 276,804 in June 1997. Domestic truck sales, however, rose 13.4 percent, with total deliveries of 352,900 units versus 311,200 units in the same period of 1997.

Imported vehicle deliveries also rose over the same period last year, the report said. Foreign car deliveries rose to 186,471 units, an increase of 5.9 percent. In total, 58,381 foreign trucks were delivered, a rise of 6.4 percent.

Year-to-date, vehicle deliveries in the United States totaled 6.33 million units, while dealers' were likely to report a total of 1.39 million units in June, according to CNW.

CNW tracks deliveries of cars and trucks to buyers as a proxy for total sales, rather than relying on dealers' reported sales.
