I find it particularly difficult to pay the big premiums for companies whose franchise is a brand name. I'm one of these people that buys Big K Cola (not Coke) and won't buy shoes just because Michael Jordan wears them (Nike). FWIW, Coke and Gillette seem to have an advantage over Nike in dominance of the distribution system. From a consumer's viewpoint, Nike's shelf space seem much more in jeopardy.

That said, I have not looked into Nike as an investment, even though many have mentioned it as a value stock and a Buffett stock. On your suggestion I will see if the library has the book and give it a read.
