Perhaps this will help you understand:

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal, priesthood, and holy
nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises

Which in time past were not a people, but are now the People of
God: 1Pet. 2:9.

Under the New Covenant, Christians are the People of God.
Just as Noah and all his descendants were once under the Noahic Covenant and all considered to be the people of God until that covenant was superseded by the Abrahamic Covenant, the covenant with the phsical nation of Israel was fulfilled and superseded by the New Covenant in Jesus's blood.
The New Covenant was made with the House of Israel and the House of Judah and whosoever would believe. The Jewish firsfruits went out and established the New Israel of God---the Christian Church.
