<< lets not bring up that sore spot called keepered media, we are a couple of years away from seeing anything with keepered in it, assuming they can get it to work economically in gmr.>>
Cards, I understand what you are saying, and am not trying to reignite hype or hold out false hope ( well actually...lol..if I really COULD reignite hype it would be tempting) But I am curious. As far as i understand it, KM does work with MR ...but in order to get meaningful capacity gains the heads have to be modified, and nobody was about to do that. I do not know how expensive that modification would be. My curiosity stems from AXC ( Micronet) developing a disk based product. Now - only hypothetically- I assume that if KM were used, they would not be making the heads or the platters themselves ...all would have to be customized. Mighty expensive initially, I would think. If it could be used, and it gave capacity advantages that enabled them to grab market share in NAS ...that would be a worthwhile loss leader. If not, we know it will, as you say, be 2 years or MUCH longer or maybe never that it will finally be sold. I am also curious about the heads they will use. Glen...Hugh...Gus.... what was that head they were working on with another company over a year ago? Just speculation Cards ...... your primary points are at the core of my hopes. But if they are going to sell a disk based product...the subject of KM has to arise again....and whether they use it or not will in fact be very telling. One way or another. |
