>>You can't "sustain subscriber growth" if you don't have the eqiupment. AOL has only 170,000 modems, and by the end of December will have at least several million unlimited usage customers. AOL won't have enough installed equpment to support its current customer base (and warned its customers in the letter mailed to inform them about the pricing change), let alone support any new "growth" for some time to come.<<

Heavy Internet users has already left AOL for ISPs. I don't think the majority of current AOL users will change their connection pattern too much. I signed for free trial a month ago, I didn't even log on once after the initial sign up. Will AOL be able to support new customers that online for long time in the future? If mom and pop ISPs can, AOL certainly can.

AOL moved from original pricing plan to 20/20 plan. They now offer unlimited access. There is risk here but I believe they know what they are doing.
