Bobby: (or anyone interested in smoked salmon), our recipe is to presoak the filets in a honey (or other sugar base such as brown sugar, maple syrup etc.) brine, then a cold smoke using alder or other green hardwood. The honey sweetens the fish in the curing process.
Regarding your question about SCADA systems to monitor the impurities in drinking water and to filter them out. That is one of the functions of a SCADA system, to monitor and control the equipment that performs those functions. Most systems perform those tasks automatically, and SCADA is used to monitor and generate alarms in the unmanned facilities and to remotely rest or adjust system parameters. Typical processes include turbidity measurements, residual chlorine, filtration and backwash etc.
On the subject of Moose, most often they are timid, but a cow with calf can be dangerous. When our boys were growing up one winter John Jr. (aged about 11 at the time) was walking down the creek in the lower 40 after checking his traps and turned to see a young moose following him. When he started to run the moose sped up and frightened, he jumped into a tree. The moose pawed at the tree for a half hour before it finally gave up.
Later the same year I had taken the boys into a remote area where we came across a cow and calf. The snow was quite deep and the cow didn't want to leave the road. We followed them for a while and she finally jumped the snow bank and a barb wire fence. The calf's hind leg got tangled in upper strand. I could see that it couldn't break the strand. With the cow a few hundred feet away I took a pair of wire cutters and freed it. The cow just stood by and watched. Tales of the north.
