Bob, I don't think anyone is afraid of Jesus. They are afraid of his fanatical followers who believe that the environment is beyond redemption, and are all sitting around waiting to be rescued by the Second Coming. They are afraid for children who are not Christians, and have freedom of religion, and should not be exposed to the concept of Jesus in their public schools. They are afraid of people who use Jesus' name to identify themselves as Christians, and yet practice a doctrine of hatred towards some groups of people.
In his own time, Jesus was a champion of the oppressed. His spirit was noticed because he was very avant garde and radical. I think it is extremely unfortunate that people freeze him in time, and argue that because he destroyed a fig tree to make a point, that he would throw up his hands today and say the environment is beyond trying to save. It could be done if everyone pitched in, instead of labelling the people who are trying to save the planet as New World Order loonies who are going to kill all the Christians.
What you have done is freeze Jesus in time, totally missing the entire spirit of his being, and much of the message of his teachings. |
