Jeez Dave, calm down. I was just joking about shooting defendants. I don't even own a gun.

But in all sincerity, I don't think Bernard Goetz or anybody has the right to shoot somebody when they are down and out of it. If you think that's a wild idea, you're bucking up against 100s of years of common law. That's why Goetz was convicted, not because he defended himself.

As for OJ, of course he did it. There was more circumstantial evidence against him than any murderer I've ever heard about. The only thing that was missing was an eyewitness.

As for Clinton and his pot-smoking and draft-dodging: I'm of his generation, and I smoked pot and did my best to keep from going to 'Nam. So did Dan Quayle, so did many of the hard-line Reagan administration insiders. I'm not apathetic about anything -- I just don't care about sexual conduct between consenting adults. And, if I remember correctly, I and everybody I knew were pretty savy about sex when we were 21. I knew a lot of young women back then who were banging college professors in their fifties. They knew what they were doing, and so did Monica.

Hate to tell you this, friend, but after its all over, Clinton will go down as a near-great President.

It's been fun. At least I don't lose money arguing about these things.
