______Netscape Scores With Ford As E-Commerce Vendor_______ Netscape Communications will announce this week that TNT Logistics is using its ECXpert software for translating EDI to the Web to manage supply of replacement parts for Ford Motor Corp. Separately, Visteon, a Ford subsidiary that provides automobile components, expects to announce later this summer it will use ECXpert for an extranet linking it with suppliers.
TNT is conducting a pilot with Ford in which the automaker hands off EDI files that TNT translates and sends over the Web to parts suppliers and trucking companies. "We're using ECXpert as a communication gateway to communicate with our customers and our customers' customers," says Norm Paget, project manager at TNT, a subsidiary of TNT Post Group, a logistics firm in Amsterdam. Ford's logistics system, slated to go live early next year, has been tested with 250 concurrent users; TNT plans to include 1,800 suppliers and 58 transportation companies.
Last week, Netscape announced John Hancock as one of its biggest customers for its BuyerXpert procurement software. BuyerXpert and ECXpert are two of the five products in Netscape's CommerceXpert line, which provides the core functions of order management, billing, and cataloging. -- Gregory Dalton with Clinton Wilder |
