MeDroogies:

I think there are quite a few issues one can point to to explain ORCL's less than impressive price performance over the past few months, application revenues as one of them.

If anything can be drawn from all the analysis of ORCL in this period of "no growth" is that the vision of the Company appears at present a bit unclear. Where's the focus? Today its apps; 6 mos. ago it was NCA; before that it was Oracle 8; & let's not forget about datawarehousing. How do all these areas fit into a single corporate strategy? I think ORCL needs to fine tune their strategy to the market. There's too much uncertainty as to what this company will be in a few years (other than a database company) & how it will be positioned to exploit future growth areas (other than database).

Nothwithstanding the above, one can make a relatively strong argument that ORCL is a bit oversold. But right now what's driving this market higher is just a handful of favored stocks, not a broad-based rise in stock values. Only when the market's breadth widens will investors focus on "oversold" issues. Right now focus seems to be on the "overbought" issues, Yahoo, to name a prime example.
