Remember, this is MY view...others have may have a different one.
As for the "huge tent" statement as applying to all new movements. You are VERY WRONG there. Most groups start out as EXCLUSIONARY...as Groucho said "I would never join a group that would have me as a member". As humorous as that was, he was commenting on the fact that groups are meant to exclude as much as(perhaps more than) include people. Libertarians, by their very belief structure, HAVE to be accepting of mild degrees of variance from their initial points...Libertarians are looking NOT for WIDE COMMON GROUND, but simple areas of convergence.
Secondly, as for the pool of funds for "redistribution"...nothing of the sort. Notice I said EDUCATION and TREATMENT. That is hardly redistribution. Rather, it is the use of funds from the very users themselves to prevent potential future abuse (education - why send people into the world unprepared?) and to help those in a current state of need (why should only wealthy abusers be able to find treatment?). I don't consider the second point Socialist at all. Most abusers become abusers unknowingly. As a result, the vast majority lose everything they have. A good Libertarian would be willing to accept this and recognize the BENEFICIAL role a government can play in helping those who WANT TO HELP THEMSELVES. Perhaps there are other ways to accomodate this. Perhaps not.
Remember, it's my view.
