If you read a few of my prior posts, I still believe that in the short run Pfizer (based on liability issues) is going to have to change that label to contraindicate high blood pressure meds. Viagra drops blood pressure through its effects on PDE5 in the peripheral vasculature. These guys taking high blood pressure meds and Viagra don't necessarily have to die to create major liabilities. They can pass out and fall down a flight of stairs or crash in their cars.

Sad to say but our male dominated society does not want to get a grip on reality concerning Viagra.

Viagra has label approval as an erectile enhanser and not an erection producer and is thus medically unnecessary.

The abuse of Viagra has been sickening. Articles released discussing Viagra distribution in hore houses and at parties making it sound like this "party" use of Viagra is acceptable. Many others have admitted using Viagra with absolutely no ED--in fact some are claiming that about 1/2 of all men obtaining Viagra scripts are not impotent and merely want to improve their sex lives.

Even more disgusting is the FDA's attitude that the problems and deaths associated with Viagra in the elderly are insignificant.

I believe that the FDA needs to classify Viagra as a control substance just as anabolic steroids were eventually switched to control status. There is no question in my mind that currently Viagra is the MOST ABUSED PRESCRIPTION DRUG IN THE UNITED STATES.

Also, no patient should be prescribed Viagra to enhance performance. It should be prescribed to those patients with PROVEN ED ie the inability to achieve and maintain an erection.

Obviously all my points are being ignored because in our society money speaks loudest. And large drug companies are all about making big money.

This very issue of money is what will eventually get Viagra pulled off the shelves. We need to give the researchers about 3 more months to prove that Viagra can indeed cause retinal degeneration. Once this is proven, Pfizer can kiss Viagra and all its money good bye because it will be the lawyers representing the individuals whose vision became impaired on Viagra that will set the record straight--obviously we can't depend on the FDA to do what is in the best interest of human health. With the FDA it's money first and health concerns second.
