Clarence,

a dedicated router is defintely more reliable and robust than wingate, etc but your paying for it. Its all in whats important to you....

NT Server versus workstation:

1. Cost (big difference)
2. Capacity. NT workstation won't serve files to more than 10 clients
3. features/function. domain controller, mac and netware services etc....

If you didn't have the mac WKSTA is the obvious answer. If you want to share files between the two without FTP or NFS then SERVER may be a valid choice for you.
