Intel has tried and continues to take up as much room on the motherboard. To get more value out of a sub $1,000 machine means you shove as much functionality into the motherboard thereby excluding peripheral manufacturing. Intel has been in the modem business. It is still in the network business and now is in the accelerator business with the I740 chip. Tiawan has complained in the past that the Intel motherboards were putting a squeeze on far east manufacturing. There's no reason why you can't put at least the an I740 based accelerator and network connection (to go into my cable modem) on the motherboard. So now from TCI/ATT I get ..... Yet another Communist conspiracy.
