Nope. I face similar issues with my children every day. Yesterday, my kid wanted a gun so it (the gun) could kill all the bad people. It takes work, but I was able to explain the dangers inherent in using the gun, the lack of discrimination the gun has toward good and bad people, and the fact that Trey (he's 4) can't tell a good person from a bad person by looking at them.
Similarly, I would have Trey face the reality that crack/alcohol/pot use is very dangerous and destructive.
My parents let me try pot and alcohol under some levels of supervision. That was the biggest learning experience about drugs and how to deal with them that I ever had. The second biggest was seeing my grandfather go on a binge and die from it...experience can be dangerous and painful, but it is a valuable teaching tool.
