the pursuit of happiness, when the pursuit of happiness by many is hampered by the pursuit of happiness from a few, law is established to protect the majority. hence, every issue does not lay its foundation solely on individual rights. there must be a collective law, or we start talking about anarchy.
if you dont see that there is an effect on our free society due to the drug epidemic than i dont know what to debate. if the only one affected by drug use was the user, than i could care less. i submit you can not possibly justify drugs having no impact on america in general today. if so, i cant argue the point further cause we are too far off base.
prohibition in the twenties for me is like trying to wage a debate on slavery as compared to the legalization of drugs in the nineties. i thought about it and generally just dont feel its relevent. if you do, great. i know the point your trying to make, i just feel the argument is too polarized and no real substance can be drawn from it. sorry if you feel they are the same, i do not.
i do understand the correlation between alcohol/tobacco and drugs. two are legal and one is not. i didnt make this up, a majority of people feel this is, in fact, in the best interest of our society. you feel differently, thats fine. poet. |
